How To Get Rid of a Bleeding Nose

Is your precious nose bleeding? Do you want to know how to treat it quickly? Just because your nose is bleeding does not mean you need to freak out over it. Actually, nosebleeds or epistaxis is a common occurrence among people. This can affect anyone but is more prevalent among young children. The nose is a pretty sensitive part of the body. It can easily get wounded and bleed. Nosebleeds happen due to damaged blood vessels in the nose. Reasons behind this may be picking of the nose and damaging a blood vessel or just plain trauma from the outside such as getting hit or bumping into something.

Although nosebleed can be a bit scary, it is nothing to be afraid of. Nosebleeds happen due to wounds in the nose which will eventually clot and heal. However, you should also not ignore nosebleed and must care for it the same way when you are treating an external wound. To get rid of bleeding nose, here are some things that you can do.

Get into position

The best position to let the blood flow out of your nose is to just sit down and slight lean forward with your head bowed down a bit.  While your goal is to stop your nose from bleeding, you would not really want your blood to dry up inside your nose and block your nasal passageway. So you just have to let it bleed until the platelets get to work and stop your nose from bleeding.

When your nose is bleeding, never put your head up or the blood will just go down your throat which may give you harder time.

Apply ice pack on your nape

Applying ice pack on your nape or the back of your head will make your blood vessels constrict. This will make your blood flow more slowly so that you can lessen the blood that is coming out of your nose. Simply get an ice pack and apply it on your nape. You can also just soak a piece of cloth in cold water and wrap it around your nape.

Pinch your nose

To stop your nose from bleeding, you can try pinching your nose. But first, get a piece of cloth or handkerchief so that you will have something to absorb the blood. Using your hand with the cloth, pinch your nose below the nose bridge for a couple of minutes. Make sure that the cloth is against your nostrils so it can absorb the blood that is coming out. Be gentle when pinching your nose or you might cause it to hurt. Also, do not breathe through your nose but instead, breathe through your mouth so that you will not be able to inhale back the blood coming out of your nose.

Clean up your nose

Once the bleeding has stopped, then you can just clean up your nose to remove any remaining blood. Simply splash your face with cold water and wipe your nose with a wet piece of cloth. Do not probe it inside your nostrils but just wipe the blood from your face. You can also apply a small amount of petroleum jelly in your nose to keep it moist.

Meet with your doctor

Nosebleeds are fairly common but if you experience too much bleeding frequently, then you should meet with your doctor and have your nose checked up.
