How to Get Rid of Icons on Desktop
Icons on your desktop are there for a reason. Accessibility is actually one of the best reasons why it’s there. Instead of going into your files one by one, you can have it on your desktop and be ready whenever you need it. Also it can save with a lot of misplaced files. It can help you become organized as well.
However, there are some people who find them rather annoying especially when your desktop is already full of icons. It can then look messy and much disarranged. Also, if you are the kind of person who doesn’t need icons or shortcuts, you just find them useless. So here’s a few ways on how to get rid of those icons on your desktop.
If you want everything gone, all you have to do is to close all windows first. Once you can see you desktop, hit on ‘ctrl a’ or just drag your mouse across the desktop. This would highlight all your icons on your desktop. After that, right click on the same spot. A box will appear with a list. Locate the ‘delete’ option and click it. In that short span, all the icons will never be on your desktop again.
Clear them out
Another option is making them less visible. This is for those who still want to keep them but wants them to be out of sight. So, the first thing that you have to do is to right click on ‘My Computer’. A list will appear and you have to click on Properties. That would bring up the System Properties window or box. Locate the Advanced tab and click it. With that on hand, locate the Performance label. Under that, locate the Setting button and click it. That will lead you to a Performance Options window. Under the Visual Options tab, locate the Custom radio button and click it. You will be prompted with a list of check boxes. Find the label that says “Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop” and check it. After that, click on Apply or click on the OK button to save the changes.
