How To Get Rid Of Metal Taste In Mouth

There are times when you might experience having a horribly awful taste in your mouth. But if you ever get that bitter, sour and unexplainable metal taste in your mouth, do not worry because you are not the only one who experiences it. Every now and then, your mouth might get too acidic so you get this foul taste in your mouth. It may be caused by the food you ate, a medicine you have consumed or because you are undergoing a hormonal change. Pregnant women also get this metal taste in mouth often. Some diseases that may give you a metal taste is gingivitis or tooth abscess.

Metal taste in mouth is not really a serious condition. Actually, it very seldom poses as a symptom of a complicated illness. However, having this unwanted taste in your mouth might give you a hard time. You might end up not enjoying your food, or not being able to eat any food at all because of the discomfort that it can give you. So if you are experiencing a metal taste in your mouth, you need to try to get rid of it as soon as possible. Here are some things that you can do to get rid of metal taste in mouth.

Be hygienic

Metal taste in your mouth may be caused by a poor oral hygiene. Note that, even if you brush your teeth regularly, it may still not be enough. A sound oral hygiene includes regular brushing, using mouthwash and using dental floss. So if you constantly deal with metal taste in your mouth, the first thing you can try to do is to try to change your oral hygiene for the better. Always brush your teeth after eating. Gargle mouthwash and do some flossing as well. Remember, most of the bacteria in mouth are actually found on your tongue, cheeks and gums, and not on your teeth.

Gargle with baking soda and salt

Baking soda and salt are great in neutralizing acidic taste in your mouth. You can just get some warm water, mix baking soda and salt on it, and then gargle this solution. Let the solution stay for about 20 seconds in your mouth then spit it out. Repeat again for about 5 times or until the metal taste ceases.

Eat foods with vinegar

For those people who are having hormonal changes, like pregnant women, you can try eating foods with vinegar. Munch on some salad or pickled foods. The sour taste of vinegar will kill the bacteria inside your mouth and promote secretion of saliva. This will now help to wash away the metal taste in your mouth.

Eat citrus fruits

Like vinegar, citrus fruits also make your salivary glands produce more saliva. The sweet and quite acidic taste of citrus fruits will overpower that unwanted taste in your mouth. So just get some orange, lemon and eat them as is or turn them into yummy refreshing drinks.

Drink lots of water

Water washes away the metal taste in your mouth. It will also do your body good because it helps flush out the waste in your body. If you are having a hard time because of the metal taste in your mouth, just increase your intake of water to lessen that unwanted taste.

Go to the doctor

Even though the metal taste in your mouth might not really be serious, it is still the best if you consult a doctor.
