How to Get Rid of Abdominal Stretch Marks

Stretch marks can be an ugly sight, and if you recently had a baby or you’re gained these marks over time, you’re probably looking for ways to get rid of your stretch marks, especially if they are showing up on you abdominal area.

While there are many remedies that you can take advantage of, you’re going to find that by following some of these tips ahead of time, you may be able to even prevent them from getting worse, or even happening at all.

How are abdominal stretch marks formed?

These stretch marks are generally formed by deep scars,  or scar tissue that make the appearance of stripes on your skin.  They can be found everywhere from your legs to your stomach.   When the skin stretches so much, skin fibers will tear to form those “stripes.”

Prevent it from happening or getting worse

A great technique that you can use before you go to bed each night is to simply massage the area with the stretch marks.  Make sure that you apply a type of moisturizer on the area / spots as well.  By doing this, it’s going to not only improve your circulation, as well as help lessen the stretching of the abdomen / stomach itself.  There are so many stretch mark creams out there, so be sure to read into some of the reviews to see what may work best for you.

Focus on the appearance

While you can’t get rid of stretch marks completely, you’re going to find that you can create an illusion with your stretch marks.  By applying some of the oils / creams below, you will find that the stretch marks will appear to fade.  Over time, they will come back, once the oil wears off.

You may want to try out the following products:

Some of them sound kind of strange, but they can work.  It doesn’t hurt to try, as you will find that each body is different.  While this can get rather pricey, you’re going to find that it will work for you over time.  Most of the time, you will forget that even have them!  Lotions and creams that contain Vitamin A E and C may help increase the elasticity of collagen within your skin, reducing the stretch marks from stretching further in the future.

Opt for skin peels or laser treatments

You will find that many oils will get rid of the stretch marks for a limited time, but they will always keep creeping back on you.  If you have the money to do so, you may want to converse with a local plastic surgeon.    They can do procedures such as laser treatments, skin peels and more that will get rid of the marks for good.  While the procedure can cost you well into the thousands, it may be the only way to get rid of them 100%.

Give it time

Stretch marks won’t go away instantly, but what you’re going to find out is that over time, they are going to fade.  You’re going to want to be hesitant on what you read online, because what you’re going to find out is that there is a lot of misleading information, such as, “Get rid of stretch marks in 24 hours”, etc.  While it may take years, they do eventually fade out, so be patient!

Vicks Vapor Rub

While many think this is an older wives tale, it may work.  Try purchasing a thing of Vicks Vapor Rub and apply it to the stretch marks each and every night.  Some people have claimed that this strategy has worked for them after a few months.  Your results will greatly vary, depending on how much is applied, the condition of the stretch marks, etc.

Cosmetic Procedures

Since many don’t want to wait a few years for the stretch marks to fade out, there are some cosmetic procedures that can be performed.  Microdermabrasion is a process where the top layer of the skin is removed by chemicals.  Another procedure such as laser treatments will reduce the marks but won’t get rid of them 100%.

Lightly scrub the area

Each time you take a shower, try and brush at the stretch mark area.  Be sure to purchase a brush that has light bristles.  What you’ll find is that over time, you’re going to scrub away the dead skin cells, improving the circulation in the skin.

Virgin Coconut Oil

Another trick that has worked wonders for many people is by applying virgin coconut oil to a colder compress.  Apply the cold compress to the stretch marks daily with the coconut oil.  Within a few days, many have seen noticeable results that “lighten” the marks area.

Avoid Sudden Weight Gain

Stomach stretch marks transpire among most women’s bodies due to suddenly fattening up. If too much fat amasses in the abdominal area, these unappealing marks emerge. The overweight no doubt experiences this aesthetic crisis. To reduce or maybe prevent stretch marks from appearing, be certain not to abruptly gain weight. Uphold a hale and hearty, low-calorie diet and steer clear of fatty foods.  Avoid overindulgence, and sleep time is not to follow mealtime. Drinking plenty of water is also important, since it keeps the skin hydrated. Consider working out for exercise thins the body, eliminating any unnecessary fat and keeping marks from showing. If it’s too late to avoid weight gain, and your abdomen already have stretch marks, aim to shed off some pounds in a gradual, constant and maintainable pace. A rapid weight loss also instigates stretch marks.
