How to Get Rid of Bad Breath

Are you going on a date but afraid you don’t smell good? Is the cause of the odor coming out of your mouth? The only explanation for that is that you may have bad breath: that annoying condition that helps repels people away from you. Bad breathes, or also called as halitosis, are a common problem especially in today’s youth. The most common cause of bad breath today are either smoking or not brushing frequently.

For most people who are in a rush to go on a meeting or on a date, they use the quick fixes, but you do not want just that. What you want is to get rid of the annoying bad breath permanently. A good example of a quick fix is the mouthwash. The mouthwash does not help get rid of bad breath. What you need to get rid of bad breath is to kill all of the bacteria causing it. Mouthwash only masks the odor and bad breath will come back to haunt you again after a few hours. You can use it if you are in a hurry but don’t forget the permanent method that could help you your whole lifetime if followed carefully. Where does bad breath come from? There are two factors that could result in a bad breath: one is the bacteria, and two are the decaying food particles. With that being said, this brings you to steps on how to cure your bad breath.

How to prevent bad breath:

Brush, floss and personal hygiene

The most obvious method is to clean your mouth thoroughly and frequently. If you think that brushing is enough, you are dead wrong. Cleaning your mouth thoroughly does not mean brushing your teeth for ten minutes. It simply means you have to brush your teeth, use a dental floss, gargle with mouthwash, and regular visits to the doctor. There are hundreds of nooks and crannies for food and bacteria to hide in your mouth. Brushing with flossing helps you reach those stealthy germs, thus eliminating bad breath.  It’s also best to make sure that you’re cleaning your tongue as well.

Moisturize your mouth

Keep your mouth moisturized at all times. Ever wonder why your breath stinks in the morning? A quick answer is that at night, you produce less saliva. The saliva helps prevent bad breathes as well as moisturizes your mouth. A dry mouth is a stinky mouth and without saliva, you most likely have a dry mouth. Here are some things you can do to increase your saliva and keep your mouth moist:  chew gum, and drink water. Chewing gum can increase saliva, unlike mint that just acts like mouthwash. Drinking water can flush bad odor and clean your mouth so it’s never a bad idea to increase your fluid intake. Also, cinnamon flavor can help decrease bacteria counts in your mouth so take that into consideration.

Eat properly

Do not let yourself starve. If your stomach is empty, more gastric juices will be produced and this will affect the odor of the air your release through breathing. Being anorexic isn’t fun and thing body is not a good reason to starve yourself. They can produce foul odor via bad breath and that is never attractive.

Test out these home remedies

Studies have proven that drinking green tea, and even chewing on parsley can help remedy a bad breath problem.  While it may not get rid of the bad breath for the rest of the day, it may last up to 2 to 4 hours.

Chew gum

While gum is going to cover up the smell of bad breath, you’re going to find that it won’t get rid of it completely.  Out of all the gum flavors, dentists tend to agree that cinnamon works the best.  There are also gum packages out there that have the sweetener called, “Xyitol.”   Be sure to look for that sweetener as that can help prevent bacteria.

Consider a water pick

When you brush your teeth, there’s a good chance that you’re not going to be able to keep your whole mouth clean.  Consider purchasing an water pick to keep parts of your mouth clean that you generally can’t reach with your toothbrush.  These picks can cost anywhere from, $20 to $50.

Drink lots of water

Even though 60% of the time bad breath is caused by bad bacteria in the mouth, it doesn’t mean you can’t rinse it away.  By drinking lots of water, not only are you going to keep your body hydrated, you’re going to be able to keep your mouth moist.  A dry mouth generally leads to bad breath, making it a great prevention tool.

Consult a doctor

If your bad breath persists after trying these methods, it is best to consult a doctor. The cause of your bad breath could be tonsil stones, diabetic ketoacidosis, or trimethylaminuria. For the methods on how to cure this, schedule a check up with your doctor immediately.
