In our houses, the couch is probably the one place in it where people spend the most time on. It’s because of this reason why couches get a variety of smells that are not pleasant to the nose. Couches are made of different materials, it can be leather, or different fabric and each one of these materials react differently once they are exposed to different substances.
Couch odors are obtained from different substances that spilled on the couch. Drinking coffee and it gets spilled on the couch? Then you have a big problem on your hand. Do you have a baby that vomited on the couch? Expect unappreciated odor to come out of it once it dries up. There are a lot of things that can go wrong and give your couch unwanted scent.

Clean up the stained part
When you spill drinks or food particles on the couch, do not wait for it to dry up. Make sure that you wipe it off the soonest time possible. Any liquid substance should be scraped off and placed inside a trash bag.
Apply baking soda
Baking soda is considered to be an all around cleaning material which you can use to get rid of odors in the air or from any surface. What you need to do is pour baking soda on the couch and let it absorb the liquid.
After the baking soda absorbs the liquid, get rid of it and then pour another set of baking soda on the same surface. Do not remove it right away but rather let it sit for a few hours to make sure that the effect is maximize.
Baking soda can absorb several types of odor that your couch can have. If you have couch odor from smoke or dogs this can do the trick.
Steam cleaner can help
Once you removed liquid substances that sit on the couch, you can use a steam cleaner to get rid of the odor that sits on the couch. Steam cleaners help in penetrating deep into the surface of the couch where liquid particles may have seep into. The heat that comes from them can also neutralize the smell.
Steam cleaners can be mightily expensive and you should consider renting it first or if you have several couches in your house that needs constant cleaning, this may justify the purchase. But in other cases, you may want to rent it first.
Cover your furniture with fabric
Covering your furniture with light fabric can prevent it from getting odors from dry sources such as dogs or food particles. If the fabric gathers smell and dirt on it, you would just have to remove it and then wash it in a washing machine then cover the furniture with another set of fabric to cover the furniture again. Aside from couch odors, you will be able to save your couch from dirt and other sources that can damage your couch. Light fabric can be purchased from different stores that have different sizes to fit your couch.
