Because the skin is always exposed, it is very prone to many diseases brought about the bacteria and germs that stick to the skin. One common disease caused by these unwanted bacteria that enter the body is dermatitis.
Dermatitis is a common skin condition when the skin gets inflamed and irritated. It is characterized by rashes and itch, redness of the skin, blisters, swelling, scales and crusts and other skin lesions. Dermatitis is not really a very grave condition. However, in can be really irritating.
If not treated properly, dermatitis can develop from a simple rash to a badly infected skin disease. Dermatitis will not just automatically= go away and you will need to do something in order for it to get cured. Some of the things that you can do to get rid of dermatitis are the following:
Visit a dermatologist
Dermatitis may not really look like dermatitis during its first stage so you would have to go to a dermatologist to have proper diagnosis. Usually, dermatitis will start with just a simple itchy rash. If after a few days you start to experience worse inflammation and lesions occur, then head on to the dermatologist right away.
Clean the infected area
Cleaning the infected area is the most important thing to do when treating dermatitis. Of course, how do you expect a disease to go away if you just let bacteria to infect it right? So if you started to develop dermatitis, or just whatever kinds of disease in general, try to keep it clean as much as possible. Simply wash the area with lukewarm water, and then use mild, unscented soap to clean it. Rinse well and pat dry. Do this at least two times a day.
Use hot and cold compress
Both hot and cold compress can help relieve the itchiness of your skin disease. You can just dip a towel on warm water and apply it on your skin to have temporary relief. Or, you can just get an ice bag, fill it with ice cubes and apply on your skin.
Use medicinal creams
Hydrocortisone is the most common cream that is applied on dermatitis. You can buy this over the counter. Just go to your local pharmacy and ask for hydrocortisone cream or other steroidal creams for dermatitis. You will probably have to apply the cream regularly for a couple of weeks. But once the dermatitis ceases, do not use hydrocortisone anymore because it has some side effects.
Apply aloe vera
Aloe vera is known for its many benefits for skin health. If you have aloe vera plants in your lot, you can just get their extract and apply it as a treatment for your dermatitis. Aloe vera is rich in Vitamin E which is the Vitamin for the skin.
Apply camphor and sandalwood
Another home remedy for dermatitis is camphor and sandalwood. Just make a paste out of these ingredients and apply it on your skin regularly until your skin condition gets better.
Wear comfortable clothes
Your skin lesions can easily get irritated when it encounters rough fabrics. So, while you are battling with dermatitis, avoid wearing clothes made from exquisite fabrics and just stick to cotton. Cotton fabric is comfortable to the skin and it can also enable your rashes to breathe and dry up easily.
