How To Get Rid Of Diaper Smell

Most of little babies’ wastes do not really have a very unpleasant odor. However, this does not apply to everyone. IN fact, while some children leave their diaper odorless, some can make their diapers very stinky. Now this is nothing to be embarrassed about as it is a natural process of a baby’s body to flush wastes, but still, it is best that the odor that emits from a baby’s diaper will be gotten rid of. The good news is that diaper smell can be removed quite easily.

IF you use disposable diaper for your baby, then you can just throw away the diaper to get rid of the smell as well. But what if you are using a cloth diaper or those reusable diapers? Sure, plain washing can help remove the smell, but sometimes, it does not work as effectively as it should. If in case your baby’s diaper smell really bad even after laundering it, then you should try this tricks to help you get rid of diaper smell.

Remove the waste

Before you can fully remove the diaper smell, then you should get rid of the waste on it first. If your child has just soiled his diaper or has urinated on it, you should remove the waste first by placing the diaper on the sink under strong running water. This will remove most of the dirt on the diaper.

Place in vinegar and water solution

As you may already know, vinegar is a very powerful remover of unwanted odors. That is why; soaking the diaper in a vinegar and water solution can remove most of the unpleasant smell from the diaper. Moreover, vinegar is also notorious in killing bacteria and germs. Simply mix about 3 cups of warm water with one cup of vinegar. Place this in a basin and then soak the diaper on the solution. Leave it to soak for about 30 minutes or so, until the odor seemed to have gone away.

Use baking soda

Baking soda is another great remedy for many unwanted odors. What you can do is to simply pour a generous amount of baking soda all over the diaper. It will absorb the odor and fight germs as well. Leave the baking soda to work for a couple of minutes to a few hours, depending on the strength of the diaper smell. Once the smell has been removed, remove the baking soda from the diaper by shaking it vigorously.

Spray with odor remover

There are also odor remover sprays that are commercially sold in the market. If your child really has a quite stinky waste, you can get one of the diaper sprays. Simply spray it a few inches away from the diaper in order for it to break down the odor from it.

Wash with mild laundry detergent and water

After treating with vinegar, baking soda, odor remover, or a combination of the three steps, you should now wash the diaper with mild laundry detergent and clean water. YOu can pre-soak the diaper with the soapy water and then scrub it until the dirt and smell has gone away. Once the diaper has been cleaned, you can hang it outside. This is to let the air take away the smell, plus, it will help bleach naturally under the sun.
