How to Get Rid of Ear Aches
Earaches can be very irritating most of the time if you have it. First of all, it seems like you can’t do anything to relieve the pain because the pain is coming from the inside of your ear. The pain in the ear can be caused by several factors. It can be as simple as earwax build-up, change in altitude, jaw arthritis and can be as serious as infection. But no worries as earache are almost always treatable.
For a start, always check for other symptoms. Don’t rush into giving any remedies before knowing all the symptoms. Check if the earache is accompanied by fever, chills, ear discharge or something else. Some earaches may just be earaches but some may be a sign of infection and might lead to permanent ear damage. When there is a change in altitude
When you are in an airplane or in a place where there can be a sudden change in altitude, you may feel a little discomfort and sometimes mild pain in your ear. This is a natural thing as you ear reacts with the sudden build-up of air pressure. Yawning and chewing gum can help you relieve the pain. Yawning stimulates your ears with force and eventually expels the build-up air immediately. On the other hand, chewing gum is also an effective strategy. Since the jaw is directly connected to your inner ear. So frequent jaw movements will expel the air bit by bit until eventually, you will feel a relief from the earache.
When there is an earwax build-up
If this is the case, the build-up of earwax causes it to harden which then result to earache. You can soften the earwax by applying drops of medicated eardrops into the affected ear. Make sure to read the instructions before using. If you are not that confident in using any medicated eardrops, you can always consult your doctor so he/she can do a manual extraction.
When there is a mucus build-up
If are experiencing a nasal congestion due to mucus build-up. The best thing that you can do is to take your preferred decongestant. That would help limit your body’s production of mucus thus preventing any earaches.
- Garlic oil – this acts as an antibacterial and can also help in relieving the pain. It’s as simple as squeezing the juice out of several cloves of garlic. Put it inside a medicine dropper. Afterwards, apply two or three drops inside the affected ear.
- Hot compress – heat always works relieve all sorts of pain. It naturally dilates and smoothens up all the tension that may be the cause of pain. Just dip a clean cloth in hot water (make sure it’s not too hot) then wrap it around the affected ear.
Consult a doctor
There are cases wherein the earache is a result of a much serious condition. This may be accompanied with drainage, pus and fever. If this is the case, it would be very practical to rush to your doctor for a consult.
