How To Get Rid Of Ear Wax

The human ear produces a slimy liquid that helps protect the ear itself. But overtime, if left to build up, this liquid can form and become a heavy lump of ear wax. Ear wax is a natural mucus secretion from the ear. It helps in trapping foreign materials that might be entering the ear canal. Basically, ear wax acts as a protective layer for your precious ear.

If left for a long time, ear wax will start to build and up and solidify. It will become orange-ish grimy waste that is stuck in your ear. But you try to get rid of all the ear wax, your ear may get infected as well because there will be no mucus left to protect your ear.

Proper cleaning of ear wax must be done about twice every week. Too much cleaning may damage your ear but lack of cleaning will probably result to the same consequence. So if you have ear wax but do not know what to do, here are things that may help you on how to get rid of ear wax in a proper manner.

Use cotton buds

The use of cotton buds is probably the easiest method of getting rid of ear wax. After you have showered, just grab a Q-tip and try to clean the outer layer to the opening of your ear. Just gently rub the cotton buds to get rid of dirty residue in your ear. Do not push the Q-tip to deep inside your ear as it may cause bleeding and infection. So just lightly remove ear wax that is visible to the naked eye. Do clean your ears with cotton buds about two times a week.

Use hydrogen peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide will easily remove the ear wax from your ear. Just get a dropper and fill it with a hydrogen peroxide. Tilt your head to the side and squeeze about two to three full drops of hydrogen peroxide over your ear. As the hydrogen peroxide reacts with the ear wax, you might feel a tingling and bubbling sensation in your ear. Leave the hydrogen peroxide to do its magic for about a minute then cover your ear with clean cloth then tilt it to the other side so that the hydrogen peroxide and the ear wax will flow out of your ears.

Take note that you should use hydrogen peroxide stored in room temperature. Cold hydrogen peroxide may bring you pain. Also, limit the use of hydrogen peroxide to twice a month since it contains chemicals that may irritate your ears.

Use alcohol and vinegar

Alcohol and vinegar have powerful contents that kill bacteria. To treat your ear with alcohol and vinegar, simply 3 parts of vinegar with 1 part of water. Fill a dropper with the solution, tilt you head and use about 3 to 4 drops of the solution to clean your ear. Let the solution work for about a minute then flip your head to the other side and clean up the liquid with a clean cloth.

Consult a doctor

For a serious, recurring ear wax build up you should consult a doctor. The ear can easily be irritated and infected so if you feel more than just itchiness from the ear wax, then you might be having an ear infection. Do not let the symptoms get worse. Contact your doctor and go for a consultation.
