How to Get Rid of Fairy Knots

Fairy knots are simply single strand knots. They are called fairy knots because the knot is so tiny that it seems that only fairies can make this knot and untie them as well. This often happen to those who have naturally curly hair so if you try to run through your hair with your hands and come across with this one, you will be interested and annoyed at the same time.

The not-so-good part is that there is a possibility that this is not the only one that you are going to find. And when that happens, simply combing your hair isn’t going to fix it. Also, it can lead to breakage and sometimes split ends which are really not good for your hair. If you want to get rid of them, go ahead and call a fairy to untie it for you but in the mean time, you can read through this article and learn some helpful tips to get rid of them.

Moisturize

Using a water-based hair moisturizer, you can avoid having these fairy knots. After taking a bath and letting it dry, apply a handful of moisturizer to your hair. Make sure that you run your finger through your hair properly and coat every single strand as possible. With this, it would be impossible for your hair to have these knots as it will just slide off. For, best results, you can also use your preferred conditioner after shampooing your hair.  If you haven’t purchased one yet, check out reviews online to see which one will work the best for you.

Seal with heavy oil

If you have EVCO, which would just be perfect. Seal the ends of your hair with it. It’s very light but will keep your hair from knotting. You can also try the Jamaican Black Castor Oil or Jojoba oil which will work just the same. You can use petroleum jelly but be very cautious about this as it may block the moisture because it’s not oil-based. Just make sure you moisturize properly before using it.

The thing with fairy knots is that the weather can play an important role when these knots start to pop up.  What you’re going to find is that during the colder months, you may have a harder time getting rid of them compared to the warmer months.  This is due to the humidity that is in the air.  If you find yourself having a hard time getting rid of them, you  may have no choice but to wait until the weather gets warmer.

Get a trim

The fairy knots are usually found at the bottom part of your hair. So when you learn that you have these knots, it would be better to just trim your hair and get rid of those knots already. If your hair is too shot already, just try to trim the knots as you feel them. You have no other choice but to do that unless you wouldn’t care to have your hair shorter or to go bald. But that would be too much for just fairy knots.
