How To Get Rid Of Melasma

Have you noticed that your skin is getting patchy and discolored these past few weeks? Are your cheeks, forehead and lip area filled with patches of different skin tone? While this may just be a temporary bodily change, it might also be a sign of the skin disease called melasma. Melasma is a common skin disease that is generally characterized by skin discoloration and patching. The real cause of this skin disease is actually still unknown up to know. But some expert claim that this condition can be caused by genes and hormonal changes. That is why it most commonly occurs to women undergoing puberty and pregnancy. But other people are still susceptible in getting this skin condition.

Melasma is not really a serious disease. It does not pertain to any health illness. However, they can still make your skin look less attractive than it should be. For this reason, you might want to treat melasma on your skin. But how exactly can you get rid of it? Here are some simple ways you can try to get rid of melasma.

Wear sun block

Melasma is hyper pigmentation. Aside from internal factors, your environment can also affect your skin pigmentation.  This is particularly true if you constantly bask under the sun. The sun is considered as an all-natural source of Vitamin E which is good for the skin. However, because the ozone layer has been damaged, the ultraviolet rays of the sun can now directly hit your skin, which is not really beneficial for your health. If you bask under the sun during the hours where the sun is at its peak, instead of getting Vitamin E, you will most probably get melasma. So before you go out there, you should wear sun block containing SPF 30 or more.

Moisturize your skin

If your skin is moisturized, your skin will be healthier. You will be able to have a more flexible or elastic skin. Moisturizers also keep your skin hydrated. If there is enough moisture in your skin, the heat that your skin will receive will be regulated, preventing dark spots that might occur. A regular application of quality body lotion is enough to keep your skin moisturized.

Exfoliate your skin

Exfoliation can greatly help in removing dead skin cells that may be causing the dark pigmentation in your skin. Exfoliation can be done by home treatments, facial scrubs and spa treatments. If you are on a strict budget, you can just mash some oatmeal and mix it with honey. Apply this to your face and let sit for a couple of minutes. Then, you can rinse away the oatmeal and honey mask. You can also get commercial products that are very abundant nowadays. Another thing you can do is to just go to the day spa to get some facial scrub treatment.

Use bleaching creams

Bleaching your skin is a major no-no. It damages your natural skin pigmentation. However, if you just want to get rid of the melasma so that you can go out there and show your fair skin, you can use a bleaching cream. The bleaching cream will work by lightening your skin tone, so that the dark spots caused by melasma will be evened out.

Go to a dermatologist

If you have other concerns about your melasma, only a professional dermatologist will know what is best for you, so go ahead and consult one.
