How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes
Insects are small creatures that can barely strike fear to you unless you are talking about cockroaches and other weird looking ones. Although they may seem harmless, there are types of insects that can spread disease. Believe it or not, as small as mosquitoes are, they can cause an epidemic. Mosquito bites are a minor annoyance caused by theses insects but they also cause more dangerous diseases such as dengue and malaria.
Mosquitoes grow well in wet areas, they lay their eggs in stagnant water and they can lay thousands of eggs at a time. They have been one of the most common problems in tropical countries. Mosquitoes are not hard to get rid of but they are very persistent and can come back very often.
Several methods can be done to take care of mosquitoes. They should be taken care of the soonest time possible. As soon as you see any trace of mosquitoes, you should do everything to kill them off. Aside from adult mosquitoes, you can also go after the eggs before they even hatch. Since mosquito larvae stay in the water, they are easier to kill. Here are some of the things that you can do to kill them off:
Use bug spray
The most common method of killing off mosquitoes and other insects is by using bug spray. These sprays are stored in cans and can be dispensed easily. Although you need to make sure that you use it with precaution since the chemicals contained in the spray can be very strong. What you want to do is to make sure that the room is empty before spraying. After you spray the insecticide, leave the room and leave it enclosed for a good 20 to 30 minutes. If you are leaving the house for a period of time, this is the best time to spray insecticides.
Install mosquito killing system
One of the most effective ways to kill mosquitoes is by installing mosquito killing systems. These are electrically operated appliance that emits electric current whenever mosquitoes and other insects get near it. You can install this machine outside your house, probably in the porch where mosquitoes usually converge. Mosquitoes will be attracted by the machine and when they approach it, they will be zapped with a tiny wave of electricity that will kill them instantly.
Dispose of stagnant water
Dirty, stagnant water is a mosquitoes’ breeding ground. If you have water containers outside your house, you should cover them. One of the most overlooked places where water fills up is the rain gutter. Fallen leaves and dirt can clog the pipes which causes the water to fill up. Make sure that you clean it and drain the pipes so mosquitoes won’t be able to lay their eggs there.
If you have water stocked up outside your house, consider disposing of them. Pots that have water should be removed as well.
Install door and window screens
Door and window screens are one of the most effective ways to repel mosquitoes and other insects from entering your house. You should consider having these installed the house to be sure that there are no unwanted creatures from entering the house. There are several types of screens that you can install in the doors but be sure to install the ones that you can open as well.
