How To Get Rid Of Nausea

Are you feeling queasy and lifeless? Do you constantly take trips to the bathroom because of retching and vomiting? Does your head feel like it is going to explode from extreme pain? Well, you might be having nausea. Nausea itself is not an illness or disease; however, a lot of health conditions are associated with it such as GERD, hepatitis, tumors, vertigo, viral infections and many more. To most women, nausea is one of the first signs of pregnancy.

When you are feeling nauseous, chances are you will just be lying on your bed all day, standing only when you need to go to the bathroom to vomit. Nausea can ruin your perfect day. You will not be able to run errands and finish your task. When nausea starts to kick in, you must be prepared to counter it so that you will not have to deal with the discomfort that nausea brings. In order to help you cope with that unsettled feeling, here’s how to get rid of nausea.

Breathe in and out

So when you are just starting to feel nauseous, you can easily counter it by taking slow, deep breaths. Sometimes, you may feel nauseous because of the insufficient oxygen circulating in your body. So just straighten up your posture, close your eyes, inhale deeply through your nose, and then slowly exhale using your mouth. Repeat this until you feel more comfortable and the urge to vomit subsides.

Eat bland foods

If your stomach is turning, you should avoid eating servings of spicy, fatty or acidic foods. Eating these kinds of food may encourage retching again. Moreover, if you have just recently vomited, you might need to eat less solid foods for a couple of hours. Fill your stomach with bland foods instead of eating your regular meals. Opt to eat plain crackers, dry toast and similar foods.  One common item that tends to help nausea is ginger.  This can assist the digestive process, getting rid of nausea all together.

Drink clear liquids

Instead of filling your stomach with lots of solid food, you can drink a lot of clear liquids instead. Drinking water or weak lemonade can soothe your stomach. However, it is advised that you drink liquids in small amounts to avoid making your stomach turn.

Drink herbal teas

Herbal teas are great for soothing the stomach. It is a proven simple remedy for alleviating nausea. Simply make some herbal tea out of ginseng, chamomile or ginger. You can add about one teaspoon of raw honey with every cup of your tea to make it taste pleasant.

Rest properly

Moving around a lot may worsen what you are feeling. When you are experiencing nausea, it is best to just lie down on the bed and rest. Find a position that you are most comfortable with. Most people who feel nauseous tend to lie on their side with pillow in between their legs, but you can also experiment and see what position eases your nauseous feeling. If you are only experiencing light nausea, it might pass by just taking a nap.

Take medications

There are anti-nausea medicines that are readily available in local pharmacies. You can just ask for the pharmacist over the counter about the best anti-nausea medicine they have.

What is triggering your nausea?

If you’re feeling nauseous after eating, running around the block or when you even wake up, you’re going to want to try to make up a schedule to see what’s triggering it.  Once you find out what’s causing it, you may want to get find a solution to that problem, or seek alternatives that can potentially get rid of it.

Go to a doctor

You may encounter nausea from time to time. But if you constantly feel nauseous, then you should go to a doctor and have a checkup. As mentioned, nausea is associated with a lot of health problems so you should set up a meeting with a doctor for proper diagnosis.
