How To Get Rid Of Pill Bugs
Do you often see small, black bugs crawling around your house? Do they seem to disappear and then appear in a larger number day by day? If these bugs look like black lice that are not on the head, then these may be wood lice or most commonly known as pill bugs. Pill bugs will make their way in damp and dark places. While they are not as harmful as other house pests, pill bugs can be a sign of lack of cleanliness and thus, must be gotten rid of right away. Another reason to do so is that pill bugs have the tendency to create damage in wood structures of your house.
Same with most bugs, pill bugs can multiply very easily. Once they have found their comfort zone in your house and you did not do anything about it, you will be shocked that come the next day, these pill bugs seemed to have doubled up. So once you see some suspicious bugs crawling around, you should try to get rid of them right away. If you are having problems with pill bugs, here are some things that you can do.
De-clutter your home
Pill bugs can be often found on piles of clutter, particularly those stored in dark and damp areas. If you think pill bugs have made their way into your home, the first thing you should do is to clean up. Pay particular attention to areas where you store piles of firewood and other lumber as pill bugs, being wood lice, are interested in attacking wooden items.
Sweep them away
Once you have pinpointed where the pill bugs are, you can just use a broom to sweep them away from your house. It is also important that you crush or step on them to ensure that they die. Another way to remove these pill bugs is to suck them up using a vacuum. Simply run the machine to remove the pill bugs and other dirt as well. Then, throw release the pill bugs in a place far from residences or just stomp on them one by one.
Set up some glue traps
Glue traps work well with pill bugs; although the traps might not be able to catch the pill bugs in just one go. You can just set these traps all around the perimeter where you often see them walking around. Just check every now and then to see if there are pill bugs that have been caught. Dispose them if there is any.
If you want a fast solution for pill bugs, you can engage in using insecticide. Simply spray the chemical all over the area where the pill bugs are most likely to be at, like basements, kitchens, bathrooms and other humid areas. When you spray around insecticide, make sure that your family and pets are out of the room where the chemical is circulating at.
Prevent them from coming back
Pill bugs, like most bugs and insects, thrive on damp and dark areas, and if these areas do not exist in your house, it will look less appealing to pill bugs. You can just improve your ventilation to make rooms less humid. Also, do not forget to seal openings around your house that may serve as entrance for these pill bugs.
