How to Get Rid of Pork Smell
There’s nothing like enjoying a great meal consisting of pork chops, roast pork or pork loins. Pork is probably one of the most popular meats that people consume. There are different types of pork cut that can be transformed into different delectable meals. However, much like any other meat out there, there is a certain taste or smell pork produce and this often turn people off.
Although pork smell is not as bad as other meats such as lamb and game meats, there are still relevant amount of smell present in the meat. Pork smell naturally occurs on the meat and most of this is because of the food that pig ate while they were still being bred. Pork smell also adds a distinct flavor to the dish that we cook. However, the smell can sometimes overpower the taste of the whole dish.
Although it is not necessary to remove pork smell completely, it is still suggested to lessen the smell to enjoy the taste of the meat and the dish as well especially after you have finished cooking when the smell lingers. Here are some of the things that you can do to get rid of pork smell before and after you cook the meat:
Buy fresh meat
Fresh is always the best and there are no argument to dispute this fact. Pork smell gets worst the longer the meat remains uncooked. Even if you freeze the meat, the tendency for the pork smell to worsen is still present. When you buy pork, make sure that it is fresh. If you know a butcher where you can go to, chances are they sell fresh pork. Purchase frozen pork only if you don’t have any other choice and do not leave them too long in the freezer. Make sure that you cook the meat within a week after the purchase has been made.
Marinate the pork
This procedure will not work at all times especially if the dish that you are cooking does not involve marinating. But if you are not eating pork chops for dinner, it is suggested to have your meat marinated. The different flavors combined during the marinating procedure are absorbed by the pork which would remove the overpowering pork smell. Marinating the pork also prolongs the pork’s freshness and it will not spoil easily.
Use exhaust fan while cooking
Pork smell in the room can leave a bad taste in your mouth so this should be dealt with as well while you are cooking the meat. Make sure that the exhaust fan has been turned on even after you finished cooking. The fan will absorb the odor and will vent it outside. The smoke left after frying pork can add to the aggravation but this should be solved by turning on the exhaust. Also, if your kitchen has windows, open it for proper air circulation.
Use vinegar and baking soda
Baking soda is a wonderful cooking ingredient, since it can be used for more than cooking. Baking soda can absorb odors and foul smell and combined with vinegar, this solution is great for cleaning as well. After you roast pork, make a vinegar and baking soda solution. Scrub the inside of the oven and wash it accordingly. You can do the same for oil spills on the walls. Just let the solution sit for about a few minutes before rinsing.
