How To Get Rid Of Shoe Odor
Shoes are one of the apparels that get really smelly. Since they are the ones protecting your feet from the dirt on the ground, they are very prone to getting bacteria each and every time it hits the floor. Because of the overflowing number of bacteria in your shoes, it has the tendency to get smelly. And of course, once it starts to emit that unwanted odor, you probably will not be able to even place your feet in those smelly shoes for a minute. But do not worry. If your shoes have already gotten smelly, you can still get rid of the unpleasant smell.
Removing shoe odor is actually quite easy. You do not even need to spend some cash as you can use some items that are readily found on your home to clean your smelly shoes. The removal of the shoe odor itself is not too challenging as well. And once you have done the steps in removing the shoe odor, then you can comfortably slip your feet on those shoes again. Here is a simple step by step method on how you can get rid of shoe odor.
Prepare the thing you will need
Before you start cleaning up your shoes, it is best to have everything you will need prepared. Get baking soda, vinegar, laundry detergent, spray bottle, scrub and water. Having things prepared beforehand will lessen the hassle of cleaning up your shoes and getting rid of the unwanted odor.
Sprinkle some baking soda
The first step that you should do is to sprinkle an ample amount of the baking soda inside the shoes. Shake the shoes so that the baking soda will be distributed all around. Leave the baking soda to work overnight. The baking soda will absorb the moisture and even kill some bacteria in your shoes.
The next morning, get your shoes, turn it over a garbage can and shake it to remove the baking soda inside. If the odor is still too strong, you can repeat the process again.
Spray with vinegar
If your shoes do not smell too bad, then the unwanted odor might already be gone after just leaving the baking soda overnight. But to be sure that the unwanted smell is gotten rid of completely, you can spray the shoes with vinegar. Simply mix equal parts of vinegar and water and pour it into the spray bottle. Use it to spray the solution all around the shoes. The vinegar will not just get rid of shoe odor, but it will also kill the remaining bacteria. Let the vinegar sit for a few minutes.
Wash with laundry detergent
After you have disinfected the shoes using vinegar, you can now wash your shoes. Check your shoes for any label that shows washing instruction. If there isn’t any, you can refer to your shoe box. Usually, you will just need to wash dip your shoes to a mixture of laundry detergent and some water. Scrub your shoes gently but thoroughly to remove any dirt. When you have finished scrubbing your shoes clean, just rinse them with clean water.
Hang to dry
When your shoes are already squeaky clean, you can just hang them outside and let them dry under the sun. Once your shoes have dried, you can now wear them again without worrying about shoe odor.
