How to Get Rid of Sperry Smell
Genuine leather is an incredible material. They are great to look at and they are comfortable to wear as well. Leather is an expensive investment, but the durability and longevity of the material makes it worth the investment. You can expect this type of material to last for a long time but you also need to remember that leather has an undesirable trait which is the smell. This is apparent to one of the most popular shoes in the Unites States which is the Sperry.
Sperry, known as boat shoes are well known for their durability but with this characteristic comes the smell which can be undesirable. You get to wear the shoes a lot of times and they can get old and smelly. Sperry is made from genuine leather and this adds to the fact that the material can produce undesirable smell as well.
Sperry smell is caused by a lot of factors and because of this there are a lot of ways to get rid of the smell. There are genuine leather products sold in the market that can help remove the Sperry smell. If you are having trouble getting rid of this particular smell, you came to the right place and here are the things that you can do to remove the smell:
Leave the shoes exposed outside
One of the many benefits the sun offer aside from lightening the entire planet for hours at a day, is that it is a natural cleaning and disinfecting agent. If you are having problems with clothes that are stained, leave it under the sun. We all know that the off smell different materials produce is caused naturally or by bacteria and by exposing them under the sun, these smells can be removed.
This is the reason why you need to expose Sperry under the sun, outside of your house. The sun’s rays together with the fresh air breathing upon the shoes can remove the Sperry smell naturally. Remember not to expose the Sperry for long periods of time since it can make the leather brittle and ruin it.
Wear fresh socks every time
This tip should not be on this list since it is common sense that fresh socks should be worn every time you put shoes one. Our feet sweat and bacteria is produced because of this; the fact that it is enclosed in shoes should multiply the amount of bacteria. Bacteria are one the main causes of bad odor in the shoes and wearing fresh socks every time should help lessen the amount of bacteria produced.
Freeze the Sperry
Perhaps one of the more unconventional methods in getting the smell out of Sperry is one of the most effective as well. Place the Sperry inside a zip lock or a plastic bag and place it inside the freezer…that’s right, the freezer. The freezing temperature can definitely kill the bacteria residing on your shoes. Leave them inside the freezer for about 24 to 48 hours before taking them out and exposing it under the sun.
You can also use baking soda
Baking soda is a very effective component when dealing with different kinds of odor. Fill each shoe with at least half a cup of baking soda. After doing this, you should place the shoe inside an enclosed bag and leave it on there for about 24 hours before dusting it off.
