How To Get Rid Of Tear Stains

Do you have a pet dog that has dark brown circles under its eyes? Does this mark make your pet look like it has big eye bags? This unwanted flaw on your pet’s face is actually called tear stains. A dog’s eyes, especially those of small breed ones, are very prone to tear staining. This is because their tear ducts structure that causes watery eyes. Tear stain is most common to dogs like Maltese, Chihuahua, Shih Tzu and other similar dog breeds. If you notice that this reddish mark on your dog’s eyes is getting more and more visible, this may mean that your dog cries a lot, your dog’s tear ducts are clogged, or it is suffering from ear and mouth infection and other allergies.

While tear stains is not really deadly, in fact it does not inflict pain on your pet dog, it can be unsightly. Seeing your dog with these marks on their faces might make it appear less appealing. The good news is that there are many solutions for tear stains. With some products that are readily found at your home, you will be able to get rid of these unwanted flaws. Here are some things you can do to get rid of tear stains.

Bathe your dog

If you constantly bathe your dog, the appearance of tear stains will be minimized. Every week, be sure that you bathed your dog about 1-2 times. Simply prepare lukewarm water and use this to wash your dog. Then, with dog shampoo that is approved by the vets, clean up your dog’s skin and fur. Be sure to wash that tear-stained area as well. But be very careful. You do not want that soap to get into your pet’s eye or it will be in pain and start to go wild. You can also use soft-bristled scrub for a more effective cleaning. Rinse your dog, blow dry its hair then comb.

Use baby wipes

For light tear stains, simply using baby wipes may be enough to remove the marks. Every morning and afternoon, you can just attend to your dog and use a baby wipe and rub it gently on your dog’s tear stains. Remember to be careful and not to accidentally poke your beloved pet’s eyes. Do not use baby wipes that are scented or have high alcohol contents to avoid stinging. The baby wipes will help soften up the tear stains and then you can just comb your pet’s fur to remove any tear stain crust.

Get tear stain remover

If the tear stain is quite hard to remove, you can opt to use a  tear stain remover. This product is made specifically for animals that have tear stains. They are available in two kinds which is the topical and antibiotic. The topical tear stain remover is directly applied on the tear stain while the antibiotic is consumed orally.

Have it groomed

If you do not have the time to remove the tear stains on your dog’s eyes, you can take it to the pet shop and have it groomed in exchange of some bucks.

Go to the vet

If your pet’s tear stain does not seem to go away, then you can consult the vet. Tear stain is rarely a sign of underlying diseases but you can never be too sure. SO to be guaranteed about your dog’s health, take it to the vet.
