How To Get Rid Of Vertigo

Do you often get that feeling of being off-balance and disoriented? Do you frequently have nausea, excessive sweating and involuntary eye movements? If you do, you might be having vertigo. Vertigo is a common symptom of an underlying sickness that is characterized by the feeling of spinning or moving environment around you. It is quite similar to dizziness only that, in vertigo, there is an impression of movement that is happening around you. It is either you feel you are the one spinning around, or it is the surrounding that circles around you. Vertigo is not a common occurrence to healthy people because this is a symptom of a disorder that is caused by unhealthy vestibular system and it only attacks people who have a problem with their sense of balance.

Vertigo is actually not a disorder; instead, it is a symptom of an underlying health problem. It is associated with inner ear infections, balancing problems, Meniere’s disease and other that have something to do with the vestibular system. It may also happen because of trauma from accidents, or a sudden, rapid movement like when you are traveling or riding a theme park ride. But whatever the cause of vertigo may be, it should be treated as soon as possible in order to make a person more calm and comfortable. TO get rid of vertigo, here are some things you can do.

Counter-pressure technique

If you are having a vertigo attack, you can simply place the palm of your hand on your forehead. Try to create pressure by pressing your palm against your forehead firmly, then, try to push your forehead toward the palm of your hand so there is a counter pressure. The force from your hand and forehead will balance out the pressure. Do this for about 16 seconds.  Try to repeat this method for about five times for best results.

After doing the counter-pressure technique on your forehead, you can try to do the same steps but this time, place your palms on the side of your head, just right above your ear. This will help relax your head and lessen the dizziness.

Healthy foods

Sometimes, when you experience vertigo, you may feel like you are suffocating. This is because the oxygen in your body is not able to circulate properly. This irregularity in the body system is a common result of unhealthy diet. SO to improve your overall health, eat healthy foods and follow a balanced diet plan. You can also increase your vegetable, fruits and vitamin supplements intake.

Rest

Resting can greatly help in making you feel better when you are suffering from vertigo. If you start to feel dizzy, simply go to your room, cover up the windows, turn off the lights and then lie down on your bed. Resting and relaxing will help in relieving the vertigo that you are feeling. Be sure to keep yourself contained in a quiet and comfortable place for better recovery.

Consult the doctor

When you suspect that you are indeed suffering from vertigo, it is best that you consult the doctor. Since vertigo is usually a symptom of an underlying disorder, it is very important that you get a checkup. From there, the doctor will be able to diagnose your problem properly. He will also be able to give you the proper medicines and advices for a quicker cure. You can even discuss some treatments that you can undergo to treat your vertigo.
