How To Get Rid Of Wasp Nests
Wasps are common insects that are most likely to be found on areas where there are lots of trees and plants. Although they contribute in pollination of plants and multiplication of crops like bees, wasps can be harmful as well.
If you are maintaining lush vegetation within your lot, it is not a great shock if ever you will be visited by these wasps. They survive when plants, water and all their other resources are present. So if you are providing their resources, wasps will be encouraged to visit your home. Though wasps may give aid to your plants, they can become a major nuisance to you and your family. So if you want to know how to get rid of wasps, here are some methods that you can try.
Hunt down their nest
You cannot really prevent the wasps from visiting you if you kill them one by one. The best way to eradicate those wasps is to hunt down their nest and start from there. Once you have located where the wasps are coming from, you can now just focus on destroying their very nest instead of getting rid of the wasps themselves, as it may take you forever to catch them.
Smoke and fog
One of the friendly ways in getting rid of wasps is the use of smoke. Smoke works well with bees and wasps alike. Basically, when these insects smell the smoke, they will get alarmed, causing them to fly away. When the early dawn comes, you can just start a small fire near the wasp nest. Be sure that the smoke hits the nest. Within just a few minutes, those wasps will buzz way.
Aside from using smoke from burning materials, you can just opt to use insect fogger. This is a safer way of producing smoke so if you can borrow one from the neighborhood, you can use insect defogger.
Knock down their nest
A few hours after dawn, you can light a small fire again just to make sure that no wasps remain inside the nest. When the buzzing has greatly lessened or there is no buzzing at all anymore, then it means that the nest is free of wasps. Your next move after the wasps has gone away is to knock down the nest. You can use a strong piece of wood and just destroy the wasp nest.
Even if you used smoke and the wasps flew away, they will most probably come back to search for their nest. So if you wreck their nest before they have come back, then they will leave your lot and find another place where they can transfer to.
The use of insecticide is not really promoted because insecticides contain chemicals that may be harmful to animals, plants and even humans. But if you want an easy method to get rid of those wasps, insecticide can help you with that. Come night time, when all or most of the wasps has flown back to their nest, simply spray insecticide onto the wasp nest. Once the wasps have died, destroy the nest completely.
The removal method of wasp nest is pretty easy but you have to take necessary precautions before you use it. Secure all the windows, doors and other openings in your house. If you have any pets, lock them inside your house as well. Be sure to give the heads up to your family members before you try to get rid of the wasps because those wasps might fly around like crazy when they smell the trouble. Most importantly, before you head out to destroy the wasp nest, make sure that you are properly geared and equip. Wear long-sleeved shirts, pants, protective gloves, mask and goggles. If you can borrow a beekeeper’s suit, then wear it.
