How to Get Rid of Kool Aid Stains
Kool Aid is a type of refreshment that has been popular for decades now. The product is usually in powdered form often diluted in water with ice. The drink mix replicates different fruit flavors and they come in a variety of colors depending on the flavor of the drink. One of the main concern people have when they drink Kool Aid is spilling it on a surface which can become a permanent stain.
Aside from being a type of refreshment, Kool Aid has been popular with people that color their hair. Imagine the effects of a drink mix that can color a person’s hair if it spilled on a carpet or on your shirt. The results are catastrophic and if it’s left on the surface, the stain can be permanent which translates to a very big headache.
Kool Aid stains can still be removed from different surfaces. All you need to know are the right procedures that you must perform. Getting a permanent stain from a silly accident shouldn’t be a big of a deal and here are some of the procedures that you can perform to get rid of Kool Aid stains:
Freshly spilled Kool Aid shouldn’t be a big issue, if you are able to act on it the soonest possible time. What you can do is grab a bowl with warm water and dilute liquid soap or detergent and ammonia. If the spill happened on a carpet, make sure that you have cotton balls ready. Moisten the cotton ball with the solution you just made and blot the carpet with it. Do not rub since the stain will spread, effectively increasing the affected area.
Use fresh cotton balls once it is covered with the stain. After this, moisten a clean cotton ball with cold water; this is used to rinse the solution. Use a dry towel to absorb the remaining stain on the affected area.
Use stain removers
Although this is a viable solution, stain removers focus on the whole piece of clothing rather than on the specific affected area. For this reason, you should run cold water in the affected area, make sure that you are rinsing using running water. There are solid stick stain removers that you can purchase as well; apply this on the affected area for maximum effect. Once the stain has been lessened, you can wash the clothes as usual or as per the care instructions provided by the manufacturer to avoid damaging the fabric.
Use baking soda
Before you proceed with the next step, make sure that the fabric that you are working with is not that sensitive. Make a solution of baking soda and vinegar and apply it directly to the affected area. Leave the solution overnight and get back to it afterwards. Once the stain is not as visible, you can wash it as usual.
Toothpaste on your skin
Fabrics are not the only surface that can be affected by Kool Aid Stains. Your skin can become a victim as well. When this happens you can use any brand or any kind of toothpaste to remove it. Although it is not as serious as getting stain on a piece of clothing or on a carpet, you should still give it a considerable amount of attention. Rub the toothpaste in the affected area and use a piece of cloth or you can scrub it as well until the stain is gone.
