How To Get Rid Of Red Spider Mites

Red spider mites are probably one of the most destructive and, unfortunately, one of the most widespread pests out there. When spiders attack your home, you can be sure that they will not go away until you do something about it. Red spider mites love to destroy plants. SO if you are trying hard to take care of your crops, then these red spider mites are one of the worst pests that you may stumble upon. Red spider mites will eat and kill your plants so once they gain access to your garden, they will continue wreak havoc unless you take them out of your lawn.

There are actually several kinds of red spider mites, but all of them are mostly inclined to infest gardens. So if you see the first signs of spider mite infestation at your lot, you should try to eradicate them as soon as possible. Some of the signs that your garden is infested by red spider mites are stippling and curling leaves and webbings.  The good news is that are some things that you can do to prevent them from destroying your whole lawn. TO get rid of red spider mites, here are some things that you can do to shoo them away.

Isolate the infested plants

In order to prevent the red spider mites from damaging the remaining healthy plants in your lawn, you should isolate the already infested plants from healthy ones. If the infested plants are in a pot, then you can just transfer them into a safe, isolated place where there are no other plants around. Or, if the affected plants are rooted to the ground, then you might need to actually remove these and just throw the plants away.

Power wash with cold water

While red spider mites love damp places, they cannot stand being washed away with high pressure stream of water. Just get a power washer, or rent it if you do not have one, then use it to wash the leaves of the infested plants. This will drown the red spider mites and clean the affected plants too.

Aside from using power washer, you can also just use a high pressure garden hose. Just connect it to the faucet and start washing away those red spider mites from your plants. However, do not set the pressure at max because you might end up damaging your plants even more.

Spray some isopropyl alcohol solution

Homemade isopropyl alcohol solution can be an effective killer for those red spider mites. Simply mix 1 cup of 50% alcohol with about 3 cups of water. Add about two to three drops of liquid dishwashing detergent and mix them all together. Transfer the solution to a spray bottle. Spray an ample amount of the solution to every infested plant. It is best to do this treatment when the sun is not at its peak so that the alcohol will not evaporate quickly.

Treat your plants with insecticidal soap

Insecticidal soap may help in removing those red spider mites. You can just mix some chopped and squished chilies, some salt, water and detergent soap. Pour this solution over a spray bottle. Use this to spray on the plants where the red spider mites live. Be sure to pay attention to underside of the leaves as well because those mites usually create their webbings there.

Call a gardener

If you cannot manage those red spider mites anymore, then you can call a gardener to help you.
