How to Get Rid of Snot in Throat
Mucus, or the snot in the throat, can be undeniably devastating and unbearable whether it’s in your nose, ears, chest or throat. Mucus, or phlegm, in the throat may be the result of smoking, the common cold or another respiratory condition, such as allergies or bronchitis. This mucus consists of cells that line the sinus passages and has several important functions. It usually moistens and cleanses the nasal passages, traps foreign particles, stops them from filtering into the respiratory system, fights infection and humidifies the air. Avoid exposing yourself to irritants
First thing to do is to not smoke and stay away from those who do. Also try to avoid strong smelling cleaners or any situation with fumes, such as burning wood. If you find yourself short of breath or dizzy, see your doctor immediately. Many conditions, such as bronchitis or pneumonia, may require more than just home care. Bacterial pneumonia is a contagious and a possibly life-threatening condition. If you run a high fever, feel dizzy or develop a rash, seek medical help.
Pour boiling water into a container and let it cool for a few minutes then put a towel over your head and bend over the container, trapping the steam from the water around you. Inhale and exhale slowly for five to 10 minutes. Steam helps release mucous so repeat this procedure a few times throughout the day and you’ll see a lessening of the buildup.
Use Lemon and Honey
Have a mixture of approximately 2 teaspoons of lemon juice and a tablespoon of honey with a cup of hot water. This should help clear your throat, as the lemon will cut through the mucus while the honey with soothe the throat.
Spray a nasal medication up your nose. These nasal sprays work rapidly so you should feel an almost immediate improvement in your nasal mucous. Be alert that you should only use nasal sprays for a few days. Refer to the particular medication’s instructions regarding frequency of use.
An expectorant can encourage mucous to be expelled from your body. Drink adequate water when taking an expectorant. As the mucous becomes loose, spit it out when you cough it up. Do not swallow it. Also, blow your nose frequently to remove the mucous from your body.
Drink lots of water
This is one of the surest ways to get rid of mucous because water helps to thin it. It will be flushed from your body as the mucous begins to thin. The more water you drink, the faster the mucous will be flushed out.
