How To Get Rid of Tie Dye Stains

Tie dyeing has become one of the most common ways to dye fabric whether for clothing use or decoration. However, tie dyeing is not really an easy thing to do. While most people think you just have to fold and tie a fabric then apply the dye and wait for it to set, tie-dyeing actually requires more skill than what is commonly thought of. When a tie-dye process has gone wrong, aside from an ugly outcome, you might end up facing tie dye stains which can give you a difficult time.

Tie dye stain is no ordinary stain. Since many bright and different colors are being used during the tie dyeing process, it means that there are more colorful stains that you have to deal with. But even though it is quite a bit of a challenge to get rid of tie dye stains, there are powerful items that can help lift up these colors where they do not belong. The key thing to remember is to remove the stain as soon as it occurs. Here are some tips and tricks you can do to get rid of tie dye stain.

Soak it up

If you are tie dyeing something and the dye suddenly gets into the cloth you are wearing, one thing you can do is to soak the fabric in water as soon as possible while the dye is still fresh. Simply get a basin filled with water and soak the stained cloth into it.

Mixing some vinegar in the water can increase the chances of removing the tie dye stain. So if you see that the stain is not coming off the fabric with just plain water, then you can add some vinegar to increase the effect.

Rub some liquid dishwashing soap

Liquid dishwashing soap is handier in removing stains than the usual detergent you use in laundering. After soaking the cloth, simply rub some liquid dishwashing soap on the stained area with your finger. Apply it thoroughly in circular motion then let the liquid dishwashing soap set for a few minutes. Afterwards, apply some more soap and then use a scrub or an old toothbrush to further remove the stain. Once the stain has come off, launder your cloth as usual.

Scrub with toothpaste

If you are dealing with furniture that has been stained with tie dye, then instead of using liquid dishwashing soap, you can use toothpaste. Toothpaste is known to have elements that can help get rid of colorful stains in furniture. Simply get an old toothbrush and apply some toothpaste into it and scrub the furniture surface gently but firmly so that the tie dye stain will come off. Once the stain is gone, wipe the surface with clean wet cloth.

Use baking soda

Aside from toothpaste, baking soda is also known to remove tie dye stains. Simply create a paste out of some baking soda and water. Apply the paste using an old toothbrush as well. Scrub the stained surface and rinse the area when the stain comes off.

Wash with body scrub

If the tie dye stain is in your skin, then you can take it off by just washing with body scrub. Body scrubs have little exfoliating elements that can seep through your pores and remove most dye from your skin. So just take an exhilarating shower and you can get rid of tie dye stains.
