How to Get Rid of Tonsil Stones
The mouth is one of the body parts that we often use to communicate with other people; this is why we need to take care of it. Sometimes do not be surprised if the person that you speak with put a hand over their nose due to bad breath. Bad breath can be caused by a lot of factors but one of the leading causes is due to the presence of tonsil stones. The accumulation of bacteria in the mouth is the main reason for getting bad breath and other complication such as sore throat and tonsillitis.
Tonsil stones are usually caused by accumulation of microorganisms and food fragments that produce sulfur and it can be stuck in the tonsils. The food fragments combined with bacteria under the tongue which can generate halitosis and stones. Tonsil stones are generally harmless although as we get older its effect on the body can become riskier.

Aside from the pain it can also cause embarrassment due to the aforementioned bad breath. Fortunately, there are several ways to get rid of tonsil stones:
Maintain proper oral hygiene
No matter what you do, bacterial presence in your mouth will never likely to go away; although there are things that you can do to maintain the amount of bacteria present in the mouth. The key to making sure that the bacteria are controlled is by maintaining proper hygiene. Brushing the teeth is already given but there are other procedures that can help you further eliminate bacteria in your mouth. Gargle with alcohol free mouthwash after you eat or if mouthwash is not available, you can use warm saline water solution as an alternative.
You are what you eat
Whatever we eat has an effect on the body and the effects can either be positive or bad effects. Unfortunately, there are certain food items that can worsen the effects of tonsil stones. Food such as dairy products and food that is rich in salt and acid should be avoided at all cost. A diet consisting of soft food such as fruits and vegetables should be taken. Salt in salty foods can accumulate in the tonsils which can result in tonsil stones.
Manual removal of the stones
By using a cotton swab, gently push the tonsil stone out of the tonsils manually. You will need a mirror to do this and may require several tries before the stones are completely removed. Make sure that you do this very carefully since you may irritate the tonsils in the process. Make sure that you do it slowly if you have a strong gag reflex as it can hard to remove them while gagging at the same time.
Surgery as last resort
The best way to remove tonsil stones is by removing the part where the stones cling on which is the tonsils. Tonsillectomy is the process of surgically removing the tonsils. You should consult your doctor first so you can get an idea if the tonsils are required to be removed if the condition is really worst. Remember to have this done only with the advice of a doctor since there are other ways or procedures that you can do to remove tonsil stones.
