How to Get Rid of Urine Smell in Carpet
There are some substances that ought to stay in a specific location as they do not fit in the ones that they are currently on. There are activities that we do that are suitable in one location but not in another. Would you eat inside the bathroom if the dining table is available? The point to these statements is that there are things that when combined, is not good and it can spell trouble.
If you have a dog running around the house and not potty trained, you can expect them to urinate in your house, it would be at least okay if they did it on the floor, since you can simply wipe and wash. But the problem is when they urinate on your carpet. Carpet is a serious investment, they can cost a lot depending on size and this is the reason why you feel almost pulling your hair when they get soiled. The worst part is that there is urine smell that will develop.
You should not fear this scenario in the case that it happened already since you can actually get rid of both the urine and the urine smell. The only problem is that the procedure is not as simple as washing and wiping. To get you started in dealing with this problem, here are some of the things that you can do:
Soak up the excess liquid
Before you do this step, it is important to remember that urine is filled with bacteria. You should wear gloves to protect your hands from getting any bacteria. Now go grab paper towels and start dabbing the area where the urine is. Do not rub the towel since this will only allow the urine to go deeper into the fibers of the carpet. Once this happens, it can dry inside and the smell can be terrible.
By removing the excess liquid, you prevent the urine from going further into the carpet. Remember just dab the area and throw the used paper towel after you use it.
Apply baking soda around the affected area
If there is one household item that you can use for cooking and cleaning, then that item is baking soda. Baking soda can be used in baking and they have properties that can dispel even the worst smell, urine smell included. What you need to do is to sprinkle baking soda over the affected area and let it sit there for 20 minutes. Rub the baking soda into the carpet to penetrate the fibers where the urine might have gone to.
After you have rubbed the baking soda, leave it on there for another 10 minutes and you should grab your vacuum cleaner to suck any remaining baking soda on the surface afterwards.
Use soap and water
To alleviate the chances of your carpet smelling any further, you should use soap and water to clean the urine after you apply baking soda on it. Apply the solution to the affected area and rub it deep just like what you did with the baking soda. Rinse the solution with warm water until the bubbles disappear.
Have your carpet serviced
If you feel all your hard work went to nothing, then you should consider having your carpet serviced by professionals. This will come at an extra cost but it will allow you to still save from buying new carpet.
