Vegetable oil is one of the basic ingredients found in the kitchen. It is necessary in frying foods, sautéing spices, making salad dressings and almost everything that has to do with cooking. Some of the most common types of vegetable oil used in cooking are olive oil, sunflower oil and basically, oils that have been derived from vegetables and fruits as well. It is preferred by many people because it is healthier than oil derived from fats. However, even though vegetable oils have many benefits, there is one thing that they can do to make your headache. That is when you accidentally bumped the vegetable oil bottle and the contents spilled on your lovely counter or tabletop, causing stains.

Vegetable oil stains are actually like grease stains, only that they are less challenging to remove. Indeed, vegetable stains are quite easy to get rid of. But still, if you do not attend to it right away, the stain may stick to the surface, making it tougher to remove. So as soon as you have found out about the vegetable oil stains, you should try to remove it as soon as you can. Here are some tips that you can follow to get rid of vegetable oil stains.

Use vinegar

Vinegar is highly acidic and its potency can break down the stains from the vegetable oil. Simply dip a piece of cloth on a water and vinegar solution and use this to wipe surfaces with the vegetable oil stains.

If you are dealing with clothes and other fabrics, you can just wash first the cloth with hot water. Do not forget to refer on your cloth’s label to see the hottest degree of water it can take. And then, add about a cup of vinegar into it. Leave your cloth soaked on the water and vinegar for a couple of minutes. Check every now and then to see if the stain has been broken down. If it has, wash your cloth with liquid detergent and clean water.

Sprinkle some baking soda

Baking soda is powerful in absorbing vegetable oil stains. So if the stain is on a counter or tabletop, you can just get some baking soda and sprinkle an ample amount over it. Let the baking soda sit there for a while until the baking soda has absorbed the liquid. Then, wipe the surface with a piece of wet cloth.

You can also use baking soda when treating clothing that has been stained by vegetable oil. Simply wash your cloth with warm water first. Twist it to remove excess water, and then sprinkle the baking soda over the stained spot. Wait for about 15-30 minutes for the baking soda to work. Then, wash with warm water and liquid detergent. Hang outside to dry.
