How to Get Rid of Vomit Smell Out of Carpet
We should all agree that anything that goes out from the body is considered waste. One of the body wastes that come out is vomit. Vomit itself is very repulsive but what makes it worst is the smell it produces afterwards. Just imagine food that is almost digested in the stomach going out with body fluids; that would make it really smell awful.
Vomit smells really bad and depending on where they end up being, the difficulty in removing them can be hard. If it spills on the floor and other hard surface, you can simply wipe it off with a rag or a mop. But when vomit gets in a carpet, it would take more than just a wipe to get rid of the smell that comes afterwards.
Vomit can seep through the fibers of the carpet and would take more effort to remove. It’s not impossible to remove the vomit smell out of carpet and there are different methods that you can perform to get rid of that smell. Some of the things that you can do to help resolve problems involving vomit smell are listed below:
Clean up the vomit as soon as possible
As soon as the vomit falls on the carpet, you need to make sure that you clean it up the soonest time possible. First, the vomit on the surface should be wiped off completely. Make sure that all traces of the vomit are removed. After the surface has been cleaned, it’s time to get deep into the carpet. Use paper towels and dab the area where the vomit fell, do not squeeze into the affected area as the remaining vomit can seep into the fabric even deeper.
You should also make sure that you wear protective gear such as gloves when cleaning vomit up. Vomit can be caused by a certain illness and you don’t want to contract that same illness the person who coughed the vomit up has. Absorb as much vomit as possible to make sure that the smell would not be as worst in case it dries up.
Use carpet cleaners
After removing the remainder of the vomit from the surface, chances are there is still vomit remaining in the carpet that can still produce foul smell. You can use carpet cleaners that are designed to penetrate deep into the carpet fibers that rids of the remaining vomit that have cling on the fabric of the carpet. Before fully applying the carpet cleaner, test it out in a small area of the carpet and check if there is discoloration.
Once you have identified the strength of the carpet cleaner, apply it fully on the affected area using a sponge. Different cleaners have different strengths and you should check out the instructions on application of the cleaner. Leave it on there for the prescribed time before applying wet sponge.
Apply baking soda
You may have encountered several cleaning references using baking soda as a form of cleaning agent. Baking soda can absorb odor and moisture and after you have cleaned up the remaining vomit, you should apply it on the affected area. Cover the area thoroughly; you can use a sponge to make the baking soda go deeper into the carpet. After you dust it off with baking soda, you should use a vacuum cleaner to remove all of the remaining baking soda.
